Washougal Lighted Christmas Parade

Washougal Lighted Christmas Parade

The City of Washougal and the Downtown Washougal Association are teaming up to kick off the holiday season with the annual Tree Lighting and Lighted Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8. The parade will run along Main Street and end at Reflection Plaza, where the tree lighting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Come early to find a parking spot as this community tradition has grown more and more popular over the years, and now draws parade-watchers from all over the North Bank.

Lighted entries come from local clubs, businesses, organizations, and individuals. Each entry runs the gamut from complicated and sophisticated to simple but amusing. Awards are given for Best Use of Lights, Best Use of Music and Santa’s Choice. (It’s a toss-up, really, as to who has more fun: the parade participants or those who are lining the streets to watch.)

During and after the parade, spectators can enjoy complimentary cookies, hot cocoa, and coffee. Entertainment will include the Washougal High School X-Tet Chorus. The Downtown Washougal Association will welcome attendees with coupons for special holiday offers from local merchants, plus a special gift. Santa Clause himself will be there as the guest of honor, arriving at the end of the parade to hand out candy canes and to pose for photographs. Plan on coming early or staying late to enjoy a meal at Hearth Wood-fired Bistro, a pint of craft brew at Amnesia Brewing, or to sample the California rolls at The Sushi Joint.
