Spring Brunch at C’est La Vie

Tickets for Soirée Supper Club & Catering‘s monthly supper clubs sell like hotcakes—but this month, chef/owner Keri Buhman is shaking things up (deliciously, of course) with a Spring Brunch on Saturday, April 29, at C’est la Vie French Café and Crêperie, also owned by Buhman and located at the same address. The scrumptious three-course meal celebrates the arrival of spring with a bevy of classic brunch selections. To whet your appetite, here is a peek at the menu:

  • Second course: Choice of a brunch crêpe, Monte Cristo crêpe, or Frenchie crêpe; French toast bread pudding with Battle Ground produce bacon; frittata with black forest ham, Gruyere and Dijon crème; or fritatta with asparagus, roasted tomato, and goat cheese
  • Third course: Choice of chocolate mousse with salted caramel; lemon curd and berry tart; or two artisan cheeses with accompaniments

The cost is $30 per person with coffee or juice, or $35 with a classic mimosa. The price doesn’t include tax and gratuity. To reserve your spot, call 360-553-5836 or email Buhman at keri@cestlaviebistro.com. Happy Birthday, C’est la Vie!

C’est la Vie French Café and Crêperie is celebrating its fifth birthday this month! Five years ago, on March 17, 2012, Chef Keri Buhman—who also owns Soirée Supper Club & Catering at the same location—set up her tent at the Vancouver Farmer’s Market (also making its seasonal debut this weekend) and the rest is delicious, delicious history. C’est la Vie graduated from a tent to a brick-and-mortar store, and then a couple years ago she expanded at her Hazel Dell location and opened Soirée Supper Club, which hosts monthly prix fixe, limited seating, RSVP-only dinners. Most recently, Buhman has opened a small marketplace next door to C’est la Vie, where customers can purchase high-quality, super-yummy French wines, cured meats, cheeses, baguettes and other goodies.

So now it’s time to celebrate! Drop by C’est la Vie any time from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 17, when all food, desserts, glasses of wine and mimosas will be $5. C’est la Vie and Soirée Supper Club are located at 1307 N.E. 78th St., Suite 10, in the Hazel Dell area of Vancouver. For more information, visit www.cestlaviebistro.com or www.soireesupperclub.com. You can also call 360-553-5836 or e-mail Buhman directly at keri@soireesupperclub.com.

Friday Night Meltdown at Soirée Supper Club

What could possibly be better than an evening centered around cheese? The specific type of cheese being tasted and celebrated at Soirée Supper Club on Friday, Feb. 17, is raclette—a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese originating from the Swiss Alps. “Raclette” is from the French word “racier,” meaning “to scrape,” and this is why: the big wheels of raclette cheese are traditionally cut into quarters, melted on one side, and then the melty bits are scraped onto a pile of roasted potatoes. At the moment I can’t think of a single thing I’d rather be eating.

Raclette parties are all the rage at the moment—just search for it on Pinterest, and you’ll see what we mean—but the raclette party at Soirée is a perfect way to get familiar with this popular European dish. In addition to the delicious, delicious cheese and roasted potatoes, Soirée will provide bread, arugula salad, prosciutto, cornichons, and pearl onions. The plate of goodies is brought to your table, and then you take your plates up to the “cheese lady” when you are ready, and she will scrape the melted cheese onto your plate. (Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Yes! I want to be the cheese lady!) Wine, beer, and dessert will be available. The cost is $15 per person, and reservations are recommended for parties of six or more. The first seating begins at 4 p.m. and the last seating begins at 7 p.m.

Soirée Supper Club (which doubles as C’est la vie French café and crêperie) is located at 1307 N.E. 78th St., Suite 10, in the Hazel Dell area of Vancouver. For reservations, call 360-258-1403 or 360-553-5836.

Celebrate Julia Child’s Birthday with Supper at Soirée

Celebrate Julia Child’s birthday at Soirée Supper Club with a six-course meal and seven wines (including a delicious sparkling wine served upon your arrival) this Saturday, Jan. 14. “But Julia Child’s birthday is Aug. 15,” you say, and you’re quite right. However, Chef Keri Buhman—owner of Soirée Supper Club and C’est la Vie French café and créperie in Hazel Dell—was just a bit too pregnant then to cook a full-on, Julia Child-inspired meal. And then the baby was born…and then the holidays happened…and here we are at the snowy beginning of 2017! What better time to celebrate?

The meal, which is $100 per person, will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. The menu features a lot of delicious French things. You might not know how to pronounce them, but that will not stop you from eating them. Just in case you speak French—or Foodie—here’s a sneak peek at the menu:

  • Potage parmentier (potato and leek soup)
  • French bistro salade (butter lettuce with green onions, Dijon mustard, and lemon)
  • Sole Meunière (pan-fried sole with brown butter sauce)
  • Boeuf Bourguignon (beef cooked in Burgundy wine with garlic, onions and mushrooms)
  • Cheese trolley (mmmm…cheese!)
  • Reine de Saba “Queen of Sheba” (chocolate cake with coffee, almonds and sometimes rum)

The price doesn’t include tax and gratuity, but who’s counting? There’s limited seating available so make your reservations soon by calling C’est la Vie at 360-553-5836 or emailing Keri directly at keri@soireesupperclub.com. Soirée Supper Club is located at 1307 N.E. 78th St., Suite 10, in the Hazel Dell area of Vancouver.
