Oktoberfest at Shorty’s

Shorty’s Garden and Home will host the 12th annual Oktoberfest celebration from 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, from 5 to 11 p.m. This popular North Bank autumn tradition is a fundraiser presented by the Mahoney Family Foundation with proceeds benefiting two local nonprofit powerhouses: the Parks Foundation of Clark County and Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation.

This year’s festival includes live music and entertainment by Festival Brass and Donaumusikanten (a genuine German band! Ja!), dancing, hand-crafted ales from Mill City Brew Werks, and authentic German cuisine by Mill Creek Pub.

Advance tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online here or at either Shorty’s Garden & Home location, although the event itself will be held at Shorty’s Vancouver location, 10006 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. Tickets purchased at the event will be $25. All tickets include admission to the Oktoberfest celebration and one beverage token. And you should plan to leave die Kinder with ein babysitter, because this is a 21-and-over only event.

St. Paddy’s for Kids

Things are greening up on the North Bank, just in time for St. Paddy’s for Kids, a morning of family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day activities at Shorty’s Garden & Home. St. Paddy’s for Kids runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, and it’s completely free. You and your wee ones will enjoy green-themed stories, arts and crafts, hands-on nature activities and more. St. Paddy’s for Parks

Things are greening up on the North Bank, and it’s nearly time for the ‘Couve’s biggest celebration of all things verdant during St. Paddy’s for Parks, the annual 21-and-over St. Patrick’s Day party at Shorty’s Garden & Home starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13. (Lucky 13!) Enjoy Irish food, music and festivities in a heated indoor space. Tap your toes to music from 5 Guys Named Moe, Vancouver Firefighters Pipes and Drums, and Molly Malone Dancers. Proceeds from the evening are 100% green, benefitting the Parks Foundation in its mission to support the parks, trails, and recreation programs of Clark County.

What's dressed in green, adorable, and really, really happy? Your child at the St. Paddy's for Kids event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Shorty's Garden & Home, 1006 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. in Vancouver. This free family event is hosted by the Parks Foundation of Clark County, and sponsored by local businesses, including Columbia Credit Union, New Seasons Market, Waste Connections, and First Pacific Associates.
 
You and your little ones will enjoy kid-friendly, hands-on activities, dancing, arts and crafts, and nature-themes games and stories. Some activities will be held outdoors, but there will also be a warm, undercover area in case it rains (always a possibility). Many local nonprofit organizations will have representatives stationed at booths on Shorty's grounds; visit them all, fill out a "passport," and wine a prize.
