Painting Classes

Painting Classes at Boomerang

Boomerang offers Tuesday night art painting classes with artist, Tom Relth. Whether you’re a beginning painter, intermediate, or advanced, you will enjoy the fast-paced and exciting learning environment. The weekly course includes seven sessions on April 18, April 25, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, and May 30.

Students will make four or more paintings during the classes and explore multiple creative methods. Students will get an introduction to the materials and methods of painting. Students will begin four or more works based upon goal-setting with the instructor. The class includes drawing and painting for beginners to intermediate students, including color theory, elements of composition, painting from still life and abstract improvisation. Classes also include group discussion, a brief lecture, and a weekly critique. (A heads-up regarding homework: it’s likely that artwork will not be completed during the class time, so students will need to complete it outside of class and bring it back the following week for a group critique.)

Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. (Class instruction doesn’t start until 5:30 but students should arrive at 5 p.m. to set up.) The cost is $189 per student with a $100 deposit to reserve your spot, or pay in full when you reserve. Online registration is closed but you can sign up in person at Boomerang at 808 Main St. in downtown Vancouver or by calling Boomerang at 360-952-8127.

Genuwine Artist

Vancouver’s first wine-and-paint shop is now open: Genuwine Artist, located in Uptown Village on 1709 Broadway Street, between 17th and McLoughlin—just south of Bad Monkey Bikes. Painting-while-sipping classes have become extremely popular in recent years, and many local establishments such as Latte Da Coffee House and Wine Bar and Cellar 55 Tasting Room host occasional art-plus-wine events. Genuwine Artist is the first Vancouver location to capitalize on this trend, offering regular classes at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and at noon on Sundays. What’s more, the studio gives back to the community by partnering exclusively with Clark County vintners and brewers.

GenuwineArtist3At Genuwine Artist, individuals and groups can learn how to paint their own masterpieces while enjoying a selection of locally-produced wine and craft brews. With step-by-step instruction from Genuwine Artist’s art teachers, students—both new and experienced—will learn basic techniques in a relaxed atmosphere with friends and fermented fun. Owner Teresa Lattimore designed the studio with a new kind of creativity-fueled social space in mind, where friends can meet—or where you can meet new friends. And here’s something wonderful: if you’ve got an event to celebrate and you’d like to host a private party, a Genuwine Artist art teacher will travel to your location anywhere in the Clark County area.

Genuwine Artist is 21-and-over establishment. All classes are $32 per person, including wine or beer—or you can sign up for a “date night” and register yourself and a significant other together for $60. To register for an upcoming class, visit, call 360-513-5978, or send an e-mail to
