Vancouver Cheese Board at Niche: Gouda

Check out the Vancouver Cheese Board at Niche Wine & Art Bar. This isn’t a new small-plate offering at Niche—as in an actual board or plate with artisan cheesed for you to nibble (although nibbling is definitely involved). It’s a board, as in a collection of people who discuss and decide things, and they’ll be at Niche Wine & Art Bar on Monday, Sept. 28.

The Vancouver Cheese Board will meet at Niche to talk about—and to taste—Gouda, a Dutch-origin cheese with a consistency similar to Parmesan featuring an intense, complex flavor profile covering everything from butterscotch to caramel to nutty to smokey. Guests are invited to join the cheesy conversation, hosted by Vancouver Cheese Board member Greg Bee. Learn about which beverages (wine, beer, Sake, cider, Champagne) pair best with which Goudas. Mmmmmmm! Educational AND tasty!

This month’s flight is $20 per person, which includes wine and various cheeses. This is a drop-in event; stop in anytime after 6 p.m. for more cheesy goodness than you can stand. For more information about Niche, visit its Facebook page.

Bubbles Club Champagne Tasting

Drink more champagne! Start on Monday, Sept. 21, at Niche Wine & Art Bar, because this fine establishment is hosting the Bubbles Club beginning at 7 p.m. Stop by Niche any time between 7 and 10 p.m. to sip some sparkling happiness in a bottle: bubbly wines from Argentina, Spain, New Zealand, and true Champagne from France.

Sample of flight of three sparkling wines and one Champagne while nibbling on artisan cheeses or any of Niche’s delectable small plate offerings. Then pick your favorite bubbly (or several of your favorites, if you simply can’t choose) and order a bottle of two (or three or four?) for Thanksgiving, and also for Halloween, after the sugar-crazed kids have finally gone to bed. In fact, why not drink a few bottles in between now and the holidays? Those little bubbles never hurt anyone.

Niche Wine & Art Bar is located at 1013 Main St. in downtown Vancouver, just north of the landmark Kiggins Theatre. To learn more, visit Niche on Facebook at www.facebook.com/nichewineandart.
