Free Breakfast for Veterans at Mill Creek Pub

Mill Creek Pub is celebrating its sixth anniversary by honoring veterans! The popular restaurant and taproom in Battle Ground will celebrate its sixth year in business from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 11, with a special breakfast where Veterans and active duty military dine for free. The restaurant won’t be serving its usual brunch menu that morning, but will instead offer a pancake, egg, and sausage meal at no charge to veterans and active duty (military ID required). Other guests will pay $11 for the meal.

Each year on the pub’s anniversary, owner Russell Brent gathers the coins from the “wishing well” at the base of the restaurant’s water wheel and donates it all to a local nonprofit organization. This year’s recipient is Battle Ground Education Foundation. Established in 1994, the Battle Ground Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit community organization whose purpose is to leverage community resources to help maintain quality education for all students in Battle Ground schools. The foundation was created as an independent organization working to support local schools through programs and resources designed to enhance student opportunities.
Funds raised through individual donations, service organizations, and local businesses are paid forward in the form of support for individual students as well as school projects and programs.

There will also be an online contest on the pub’s Facebook page where guests are encouraged to guess the amount drawn from the well. The guest with the closes guess will win a $100 gift certificate from Mill Creek Pub. To see Mill Creek Pub’s menu, and for hours and directions, visit www.millcreekpub.com. Be a Santa to a Senior

Home Instead Senior Care invites you to get into the spirit of the season with its Be a Santa to a Senior program. Look for purple Christmas trees at businesses around town—purple is the color that signifies a movement by local and national organizations to raise awareness of elder abuse, to prevent and ultimately put a stop to the exploitation of elderly people. Each “ornament” on the purple Christmas trees is a tag listing items needed or wanted by a local senior. Pick a tag and purchase the items, then bring the wrapped or unwrapped gift—with the identifying tag attached—back to the business where you got the tag. You can take as many tags as you like! The deadline to return tags is Dec. 15.

Mill Creek Pub in Battle Ground is an especially enthusiastic supporter of the Be a Santa to a Senior program, and you can find a big purple tree in the restaurant’s waiting area. According to Mill Creek’s owner, Russell Brent, his restaurant’s guests hold the record for donating the most gifts. For more information about Be a Santa to a Senior, visit www.beasantatoasenior.com. To see Mill Creek Pub’s menu and hours, visit millcreekpub.com.

While you’re in Battle Ground, you might also consider donating a the Rocksolid Community Teen Center’s Coat Drive for Kids. Drop off new or gently used winter coats to the teen center—located at 12919 N.E. 159th St. in Brush Prairie—by Sunday, Nov. 27. To learn more about Rocksolid, which provides a safe place for local teens to hang out after school, visit rocksolid-teen.com.

Toss Your Coins at Mill Creek

The popular Mill Creek Pub in Battle Ground—the only pub we know of with a real, turning mill wheel in the center—invites you to toss coins into its indoor pool in honor of the pub’s four-year anniversary. At the end of business on Thursday, Nov. 5, all the coins will be pulled out, tallied…and given to two local charities supported by Mill Creek’s owner, Russell Brent. What’s more, the total amount will be matched, dollar for dollar and penny for penny, by Three Kings and Waste Connections. The nonprofit organizations receiving the funds are the Battle Ground Mentor Collaborative and the Battle Ground Education Foundation.

Then, starting after the coins are tallied on Nov. 5, you can join the contest on Mill Creek’s Facebook page to guess the total amount. The person with the closest guess will win a gift certificate to Mill Creek Pub. If you guess the exact amount, you’ll also have a chance to win a free Kubota Residential Mower, courtesy of Skip Ogden with Dan’s Tractor. Be sure to come to the pub on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for the anniversary celebration—$4 menu items offered from 2 to 4 p.m., as well as entertainment and prizes. Mill Creek Pub is located at 1710 S.W. 9th Ave, Suite 101, in Battle Ground. To learn more, visit www.millcreekpub.com.
