Labor Day

S’mores Party & Musicians’ Open Mic at Latte Da

Latte Da Coffe House and Wine Bar is celebrating back-to-school season with a neighborhood s’mores party, to help you and your kids end the summer on a sweet note. Drop by any time from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5—that’s Labor Day—to toast marshmallows over Latte Da’s firepit and smoosh them together with chocolate between two Graham crackers. Mmmmmmmm, s’mores! All ages are welcome (even if you don’t have kids going back to school!).

Latte Da is also hosting its monthly Musicians’ Open Mic Night that evening, so stick around for lots of live music—or sign up starting at 6 p.m. to sing or play a song yourself! Kids are also invited to participate. The performances start at around 6:30 p.m.

Latte Da will be offering its full food and drink menu that evening—choose from delicious small plates like flatbread pizza, arancini and stuffed mushrooms, or go for one of Latte Da’s delicious sandwiches or wraps. There will also be locally made quiche and pastries, plus an array of wine and craft beer. And of course there will be yummy coffee, tea, and hot cocoa! For more details, visit

Labor Day Weekend Train Rides

Who wants to ride on a train? WE DO! And we bet you do, too. Heed the “all aboard” call during four separate train rides—two each day—on Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3 & 4. The Chelatchie Prairie Railroad, which departs out of the Yacolt Train Station at 207 N. Railroad Ave., is offering family train rides at noon at 2:30 p.m. The cost is $16 per person, $15 for seniors, $11 for kids ages five to 12, and $9 for little ones two to four. Babies are free!

The scenic, diesel-fueled train trip brings you chug-chug-chugging out to Moulton Falls, passing through a 330-foot, solid rock tunnel with a stop at Moulton Station to visit beautiful Yacolt Falls. (The trail down to the falls is an easy hike, but bring your walking shoes—and your camera!) Passengers should arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for boarding.
