Vancouver’s Downtown Association has announced that another significant piece of public art will soon be added to Vancouver’s city center. “Founding Mothers” was chosen as the theme for this project, because women have had a profound impact on the livability and well-being of our community.
A committee was formed to seek qualified artists and review their submissions. The winning entry, “Heart and Stone,” will be installed on the corner of 6th and Columbia during the First Friday Artwalk on Oct. 2. This massive heart and supporting basalt boulder (pictured above) will weigh in at an impressive approximate 4500 pounds and will measure 12 x 10 x 4 feet. The artists are Jennifer Corio and David Frei of Vancouver’s Cobalt Designworks, who created the “Flying Umbrellas” at the corner of Evergreen and Main.
