Spooky Week: Jack O’Lanterns & Ghost Stories

Things are getting spoooooooky at the Camas Public Library as Halloween draws closer. Next week, in fact, is officially Spooky Week at the Camas Library, with a pumpkin carving contest, ghost stories for grown-ups and kids, and of course the annual Boo Bash on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Judging for the library’s pumpkin carving contest will take place on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m. Bring your carved pumpkin to the library to compete with other pumpkin-carvers for prizes. Awards will be presented after the judging. You can bring your pumpkin at any time before 4 p.m. on the day of the contest. Awards will be presented after judging. Award categories include Most Creative, Scariest and Funniest.

Come back to the library on Friday, Oct. 28, for “Listening in the Dark,” an annual event which celebrates the art of the spooky story. Not-Too-Scary Stories for children starts at 7 p.m., and Hair-Raising Tales for adults begins at 8 p.m. Both storytelling events will be held in the Totem Pole Room with stories read by Dan Sisco and Camas Library staff.

Boo Bash is an annual Halloween event organized by the Downtown Camas Association where downtown merchants open their doors to all the kids and families in the community and give out free candy. The library is one of the stops on the Boo Bash route. Come in costume and get a little daylight trick-or-treating done (and don’t worry, you’ll always get a treat). Boo Bash is from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. For more details, visit downtowncamas.org.
