How to Live Life Boldly: Looking at the Life of Frida Kahlo Through Art Making and Wine Tasting

Angst Gallery is hosting a bold new event that explores that mysterious, delightful intersection between the fully engaged creative life, the artistic process, and—most importantly—wine. “How to Live Life Boldly: Looking at the Life of Frida Kahlo Through Art Making and Wine Tasting,” is a brief workshop led by artist Erin Dengerink and Niche Wine Bar proprietor/Angst Gallery owner Leah Jackson.

Come to Angst Gallery in downtown Vancouver from 6 to 8 p.m. for an exploration of Kahlo’s series of artworks that were inspired by her time spent in New York City. Kahlo (in case you didn’t know) was a famous Mexican artist who drew on her own life story to create passionate, surrealist paintings. Kahlo’s work about New York depicts her reaction to her  experiences in the city. Her work could be political, personal, and fantastical. Attendees will look at images of Kahlo’s artwork, discuss the ideas and symbols in her paintings, and experiment with making their own artwork based on Kahlo’s dynamic and psychological paintings.

The workshop will be paired with a tasting of wines that inspired by Frida’s persona. Students will taste and discuss the wines and no doubt be moved to wonder by the world of art and the art of wine. No prior wine knowledge needed and no artistic experience is necessary—beginners welcome! The cost is $35 per person and includes drawing materials, paper, and wine tasting. Angst Gallery is located at 1015 Main St. in downtown Vancouver. To sign up, email Jackson at nichewine@gmail.com. This workshop is part of “The Art of Knowing,” is a new series of workshops which will pair great wines with the work of great artists from around the world.
