Chelatchie Prairie Father’s Day Steam Train Rides

The Chelatchie Prairie Railroad will be bringing out the steam engine this Father’s Day Weekend, June 18 and 19. The train, pulled by a 1929 steam locomotive, runs south about seven miles to the Heisson area, through a 330-foot tunnel through solid rock, with a stop at Moulton Station to visit Yacolt Falls. Excursions depart at noon and 2:30 p.m. from the station in Yacolt, located at 207 N. Railroad Ave. Passengers should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Reservations are recommended as space is limited, especially on Father’s Day. (…because seriously, who doesn’t love a train ride?)

The railroad is offering another “steamy” option from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, in conjunction with Moulton Falls Winery, 30901 N.E. Railroad Ave. in Yacolt. After some yummy appetizers served at the winery at 4 p.m., the steam locomotive will pick up passengers at 5 p.m., then continue on its scenic route through Heisson and on to a bridge across the East Fork of the Lewis River. On the return trip, the train will drop passengers back at the winery for dinner and festivities

Tickets for the Wine Train package are available at Moulton Falls Winery during business hours or online at The price per person is $45, and includes appetizers, wine tasting, the train ride, a BBQ dinner, and live music from Echoes of Yasgurs until 9 p.m. This is another super-popular event, so purchasing tickets in advance of the day, while not required, is enthusiastically recommended.

Steam Weekend & Wine Run

Take some excellent local wine and a steam train and put them both together, and what do you get? The Chelatchie Prairie Railroad Wine Run on Saturday, Sept. 19. The train will pick up passengers at 5 p.m. from the Moulton Falls Winery, located at 31101 N.E. Railroad Ave., just outside of Yacolt. The train will chug along to the scenic Heisson area, through a tunnel and across the beautiful East Fork of the Lewis River. The train will return to drop off passengers at the winery and then end up back at its home station in Yacolt.

Tickets are $35 for a package that includes your steam train ticket, appetizers, wine tasting, dinner and music from Doug Smith & Judy Koch-Smith. And put on your dancin’ shoes, because you might need to two-step. Tickets can be purchased at the Moulton Falls Winery, where passengers will board. If wine isn’t your thing but you do love a steam train, the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad is offering a two days of steam train rides, with four separate departure times: noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, and noon and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. You’ll enjoy a 13-mile round trip from Yacolt to Basket Flats, traveling through the beautiful logging and farming country of North Clark County. The train will stop at Moulton Station to visit Yacolt Falls, and along the way you’ll cross the Lewis River with excellent views from the railroad’s cliff-side vantage point and ride through a 330-foot-long tunnel blasted out of solid rock.
