Get Golf Ready Kick-Off

Golf may be “A good walk, spoiled,” according to the quote famously attributed to Mark Twain, but it is also where connections are forged, deals are made, and birdies are whizzed, or whatever it is, exactly, that one does with a club and a ball.

But you need not be as ignorant as this editor is when it comes to this noble sport. To help you get a better grip and perfect your stance, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Camas Meadows to provide a four-lesson program to help women golfers learn the basics and hone the mad golf skillz they already have.

The first lesson is Monday, Jan. 19, but the free kick-off event will happen from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12. Come to the nice, warm clubhouse at Camas Meadows to learn more about the program and sip wine, nibble on hors-d’oeuvres, and enjoy sweet treats. Consider signing up for the GVCC’s fist women only golf tournament, happening in August at Camas Meadows. After four lessons—a bargain for only $40, taught by PGA instructor Chris Garrison—you’ll be whizzing that birdie like a pro. To RSVP, e-mail sherri.walling@camasmeadows.com.

Youth Golf Launch Party

The Washington Youth Golf Academy invites kids and teens ages six through 17 (and their parents, of course!) to its Youth Golf Launch Party at Camas Meadows from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. Learn about the Camas Meadows’ 2015 programs for all age groups and meet the Camas Meadows team of professional instructors. Play mini-putt and Wii golf and enjoy a tasty milkshake. Every kid who signs up gets a free Nike pack. Attendance at this event is free to everyone.

Camas Meadows is located at 4105 N.W. Camas Meadows Drive in Camas. For more information about Camas Meadows, call 360-833-2000 or visit camasmeadows.com. For more details about Camas Meadows youth golf programs, contact Bryce Poulin at 530-448-0426 or bryce.poulin@camasmeadows.com.

While you’re there, check out the beautiful Oaks Bar & Grille with a new menu created by Executive Chef Scott Palmer. There’s a happy hour seven days a week from 3 to 6 p.m. when all well drinks, draft beer, and wines are $5 or less. The Oaks was recently remodeled and offers outdoor seating (when temperatures permit—although with all this spring sunshine, why wait?) and soothing views of the rolling greens.
