Wattle Tree Place joins the First Friday Art Walk on Friday, Oct. 6, with an art exhibit and silent auction. Wattle Tree Place will be open for art viewing from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from now through Sunday, Oct. 8. Bids on individual pieces can be submitted from 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8. Pieces which are not sold at auction will remain on display at Wattle Tree Place at the artist’s request.
Bidders will be given ID numbers that will also enter them into a drawing for one of three door prizes. Bidding sheets will be available as well as a catalogue of the paintings with the artists’ photographs and biographies. Guests will also have an opportunity to speak with some of the artists throughout the weekend, and a Wattle Tree Place staff member will be there to help if there are questions. The auction results will be announced after 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8. The Sunday afternoon celebration, beginning at 4 p.m., will also include live music, as well as wine tasting and whiskey tasting (by donation). A BBQ dinner will be available for purchase starting at 6 p.m.
Wattle Tree Place is a locally owned, community-focused small business catering to moms, dads, kids, and family groups. Located in a remodeled craftsman house in downtown Vancouver at 306 E. 16th St., it is a café which serves locally roasted coffee along with healthy, organic snacks, lunches, kids’ meals, and homemade cakes and pastries. It offers year-round event spaces for birthday parties, baby showers, spa nights, date nights, graduation celebrations, and community meetings. There’s a free children’s play area outside, as well as an indoor play area. An after-school kids’ activity program is available at 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Wattle Tree Place (named after a native Australian tree known to the indigenous people as “healing tree”) also offers holistic healing rooms featuring treatments such as reiki, yoga, massage, tarot card readings, meditation circles, and more. Parents can book the in-house, low-cost “babysitter” to watch their kids during treatments.
