VSO Plays Bach, Beethoven & Brahms
January 21, 2017
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until January 22, 2017
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is honored to welcome piano virtuoso Orli Shaham and Marcelo Lehninger, Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony, to Skyview Concert Hall for a Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms in not one but two spectacular performances: 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22.
The concert begins with Bach’s Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068, which includes the beloved Air on the G String, followed by Beethoven’s famous symphony No. 8 in F Major—one of the final compositions of his “heroic decade.” Shaham takes the stage with Maestro Lehninger and the orchestra to deliver an explosive finale performance of Brahms’ monumental piano concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op 83.
A consummate musician recognized for her grace, subtlety and vitality, Shaham has established an impressive international reputation as one of today’s most gifted pianists. She has been hailed by critics on four continents, including the New York Times, which called her a “brilliant pianist.” Shaham’s appearance is sponsored in part by a generous gift from Ann Bardacke and David Wolf.
Brazilian-born Lehninger is the newly-appointed Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony. He previously served as Music Director of the New West Symphony in Los Angeles, for which the League of American Orchestras awarded him the Helen H. Thompson Award for Emerging Music Conductors.
Tickets are $50 for reserved seatins, $37 for general admission, $32 for seniors, and $10 for students. Tickets are available online at www.vancouversymphony.org. Skyview Concert Hall is located at 1300 N.W. 139th in the Salmon Creek area of Vancouver.
