Vietnam Veterans Memorial Dedication

UPDATE: Because of anticipated inclement weather, the ceremony to dedicate the new Vietnam Memorial at the Vancouver VA campus will be held inside the gymnasium, located adjacent to the Memorial Garden.
The Community Military Appreciation Committee and VA Portland Health Care System invite the community to the unveiling and dedication of the Vietnam Memorial Monument at the Vancouver VA campus at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. This new memorial will honor 59 Clark County military service members who were killed in Vietnam. Brass plaques inscribed with the 59 names have been mounted on stone monuments under the Huey helicopter. All Vietnam-era veterans will be recognized and honored at the event with a 50th Anniversary commemorative pin.
Featured speakers event will be Jerilyn Brusseau and Rae Cheney, the sister and mother of U.S. Army 1st Lt. Daniel Cheney, one of the Clark County military service members who was killed in Vietnam and listed on the new memorial. The Brusseaus co-founded PeaceTrees Vietnam. They travel frequently to Vietnam to assist those whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by the explosive remnants of war. PeaceTrees sponsors de-mining and mine risk education, victim assistance, and community building projects, such as kindergartens and libraries, in partnership with the people of Quang Tri Province.
A reception with light refreshments will start at 10 a.m. in the Vancouver VA campus gymnasium, adjacent to the Memorial Garden. Follow the signs to the event once you enter the campus at 1601 E. 4th Plain Blvd. in Vancouver.
