Vancouver Symphony Orchestra: Young Artists Competition Winners + Respighi & Grieg
April 22, 2017
An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until April 23, 2017
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) continues its 38th season with a concert that combines the talents of three gold medalists in the VSO’s Young Artists Competition. The concerts, conducted by Maestro Salvador Brotons, will begin with the charming Lyric Suite by Edvard Grieg, and will also feature Ottorino Respighi’s monumental Pines of Rome.
These masterworks by Grieg and Respighi will frame the performances by the three Young Artists winners: flutist Ashley Teng, playing Concerto for Flute & Orchestra, Movement 1, by Carl Nielsen; violinist Symphony Koss, playing Carmen Fantasy for Violin & Orchestra, Op. 25 by Pablo de Sarasate; and pianist Trevor Natiuk, playing Concerto No.1 in F-sharp minor for Piano & Orchestra, Op.1, Movement 1 by Sergey Rachmaninoff. All three won the right to appear with Maestro Brotons and the VSO by delivering extraordinary performances in front of a capacity crowd at the final live round of the Young Artists Competition on Jan. 15.
Performances will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, and at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at Skyview Concert Hall, 1300 N.W. 139th St. in Vancouver. Reserved seating is $50, general admission is $35, seniors are $30, and students are $10. To purchase tickets online, click here.
