Poetry Moves Launch Party

January 15, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Poetry moves us in mysterious ways…and the poems on C-TRAN buses literally move around Clark County, while uplifting, inspiring and provoking travelers to think deeply. The poems are a result of the innovative Poetry Moves program, a joint project among C-TRAN, the Arts of Clark County, Printed Matter Vancouver and Clark County Poet Laureate Christopher Luna. Here’s the story:

Several years ago, Luna launched a program that sends local writers into Clark County schools to lead poetry workshops aimed at showing children that poetry can be meaningful, magical, and fun. The program received grant support from Humanities Washington and the Arts of Clark County, which approached C-TRAN about putting poems on its buses. Now entering its third year, the program is a roaring success. The first batch of poems are ready to get moving on a whole fleet of C-TRAN buses. Passengers will see those poems from January through June of 2017—and then a second batch will be chosen to appear from June through December.

You’re invited to the family-friendly Poetry Moves Launch Party, happening at the Vancouver Community Library from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15. While you nibble on complimentary light refreshments, you can hear the poems read aloud by their authors—as well as readings by Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall and Clark County Poet Laureate Christopher Luna. Poem bus cards from all three seasons of Poetry Moves will be available for sale for $20 each. All proceeds will go toward funding the program. For more information about this program, visit the Poetry Moves Facebook page or check out Printed Matter Vancouver.
