Opening Reception for Annette Jackson’s Contemporary Mask Exhibit
November 3, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Annette Jackson‘s contemporary masks will be on display at the Second Story Gallery, located upstairs at the Camas Public Library in downtown Camas. You can meet the artist and see her colorful, conversation-provoking masks during the First Friday reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. There will be complimentary light refreshments and live music. (You’ll also want to stick around for the “Thankful for Pie” First Friday event in downtown Camas, when shops stay open late and there will be all kinds of pie to sample!) Jackson’s exhibit, entitled “Mirror, Mirror,” will be up during the entire month of November.
Jackson designs vibrant, exaggerated faces to elicit emotional responses from viewers. She was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and graduated from NYU with a BA in Art Education. She has lived, taught, and created on both coasts. She draws upon her diverse Native American, African, and Eastern European heritage for inspiration, juxtaposing seemingly unrelated materials and forms to create masks that are sometimes whimsical, sometimes dramatic. She uses repurposed wood as her base, layering on elements as varied as lampwork beads, fused glass, metals, and enamel pieces. Some masks are symbolic, some are celebratory, and some are pure attitude. You can learn more about her work at www.annettejacksonart.com or by following her on Facebook at facebook.com/A.Jackson.Art.
