Interstate Games: Washington vs. Oregon Horses
September 2, 2016
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until September 4, 2016
In 1957, Oregon challenged Washington to a contest: which state has the fastest horses with the best riders? Washington said: Heck yeah, we’ll meet you in the arena. Twenty of the best horses from Washington and Oregon were brought to Portland to compete in events like barrel racing, polebending, bareback relays, and more. Oregon won (THAT time), but one outcome was for sure: it was so much dang fun, everyone wanted to do it again! Thus the Annual Interstate Games Competition was born.
There’s no other event like it in the whole country—and spectators can come and watch for free (free parking, too!) at the Clark County Event Center in Ridgefield. When the meet concludes, there will be many new Interstate Champions—plus a new Interstate Queen and her Interstate Princesses—who will represent the Pacific Northwest in Western horse competitions worldwide.
Come to see top horses and riders in full Western gear compete in Texas-style barrel racing, polebending, key stake racing, bareback relays, flag racing, keyhole racing and more. There will also be horsemanship contests and the crowning of a new 2016 Interstate Queen; last year, it was Hannah Sperber of Washington—will our fair state retain the title? Be there to find out!
