Independence Day & Fun Run in Ridgefield
July 4, 2014Free
Ridgefield is a small town with a big heart, renowned for its charming Fourth of July celebration that captures the town’s all-American spirit. There will be something for everyone: free outdoor entertainment, a fun run, contests and games, food and beverages, including a pancake breakfast and a salmon barbecue, arts and crafts, a coaster derby (soapbox cars powered entirely by gravity) from 2 to 4 p.m., street dancing, and—the pièce de résistance—a parade. Funding for this community event is raised through private and business donations, vendor fees, and other application fees—not to mention the unsung but deeply appreciated efforts of many, many volunteers. Around 5,000 people are expected to attend this year. And yes, there will be fireworks! For complete details, visit www.ridgefield4th.com.
The Independence Run follows an out-and-back course on rolling rural roads, starting and finishing in downtown Ridgefield. Walkers are welcome, too! Race-day registration opens at 7 a.m., the Kids’ Dash begins at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K and 10K adults races start at 8 a.m. The advance registration fee for the 5K is $30 with a t-shirt or $20 without; the registration fee for the 10K is $40 with a t-shirt or $30 without. To register online, click here. All fees are $5 more on the day of the run. For more information, contact Angela Shields at 360-887-1014.
