Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic Night
September 8, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic Night welcomes the change of season with two notable poets at its next meeting, starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at Angst Gallery, 1015 Main St. in downtown Vancouver. Food and adult-type libations will be provided by Angst’s next-door neighbor and partner in wine, Niche Wine Bar. This monthly event is the cornerstone of the Couve’s vibrant poetry scene, and is hosted by Clark County’s Poet Laureate Christopher Luna and Toni Lumbrazo Luna, publisher of Printed Matter Vancouver. All ages are welcome (although parental guidance is heartily recommended, due to the unedited and unabridged nature of the poems to be shared, some of which cover more mature themes).
September’s special guests are Tiffany Burba and Lori Loranger. Burba is a Pacific Northwest poet and photographer who captures everything from sunsets to sunflowers to the New York skyline. She’s the author of “Meet Me Where I Left You,” a full-length volume of poetry published just last month, and her poems were also seen on C-Tran buses as part of last year’s “Poetry Moves” project. She’s also a mother, a grandmother, a massage therapist and a practitioner of Reiki who loves to dance, drink whiskey, and spend time with others who have a zest for life.
Loranger is a native Washingtonian who practices mediation, tai chi, permaculture and civil disobedience on the north side of the Columbia River Gorge, where she’s lived for 35 years. Lori’s poetry has appeared in both Ghost Town Poetry anthologies, “Visions of Light,” a compilation of photography and poetry edited by Raymond Klein, and The Poeming Pigeon.
