Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic Night
November 12, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Poetry is a natural response to the complexities and nuances of human existence…to take our individual, idiosyncratic experience and set it to words, and to hang those words upon a structure that makes it comprehensible and compelling to everyone. That’s why we need poetry and poets, as well as places to connect poetry with the audiences who want to hear it. Fortunately for the North Bank, Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic Night at Angst Gallery beautifully fulfills this role.
The next Open Mic Night will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. This month’s poetry gathering features Kristin Roedell, a Northwest poet and retired attorney. Her work has appeared in over 50 journals and anthologies, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, Switched On Gutenberg, and CHEST. She is the author of Girls with Gardenias and Down River, as well as a finalist for the Quercus Review Press poetry prize. She has twice been nominated for Best of the Web and once for the Pushcart Prize. She was the 2013 winner of NISA’s 11th Annual Brainstorm Poetry Contest and a finalist in the 2013 Crab Creek Review poetry contest.
Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic is open to all ages (although parents be warned, because the material is uncensored) and LGBTQ-friendly. Refreshments and libations will be provided by Niche Wine Bar, located next door to the gallery. Angst Gallery is located at 1015 Main Street in downtown Vancouver.
