Free Poetry Workshop with WA State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall
May 12, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Ghost Town Poetry is hosting a special Poetry Workshop during its regular Open Mic Night at Angst Gallery, starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. The Poetry Workshop features Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall, who will be in town with hosts Christopher Luna and Toni Lumbrazo Luna to teach aspiring poets how to make the words go together more better. Marshall, a creative writing and literature teacher at Gonzaga University, is the winner of the 2015 Humanities Washington Award and 2009 finalist for the Washington State Book Award.
The workshop, titled “If You Ain’t No Place, You Can’t Go Nowhere” (See what I mean? Pure poetry), is limited to the first 28 people who sign up by emailing Christopher Luna at firstname.lastname@example.org. Attendees will explore ways to connect their imaginations to the landscapes—both real and imagined—of Washington, from its flora and fauna to town names, geographical features, and geological phenomenae. Workshop students will work through stages freewriting to drafting a poem that will reveal more about where they’ve been, who they are, and where they might go in the future.
Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic night is, as always, 100% free, and so is the workshop. Refreshments and libations will be provided by Niche Wine Bar. Angst Gallery is located in downtown Vancouver at 1013 Main Street. For more details, visit Printed Matter Vancouver at printedmattervancouver.com.
