First Friday in Camas: Plein Air Painting, Bronze Bird Tour
September 1, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 8:00 pmFree
September’s First Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 1 brings art, art, and more art to downtown Camas with a plein air painting event, the new Bronze Bird Art Tour, art shows at Camas Gallery and Attic Gallery, and a town-wide exhibit of Elida Field‘s “Art, Women & Wine” student paintings. But wait, there’s more: there will be live music at Nuestra Mesa, shops will be open late open late, and downtown Camas’ restaurants, brewpubs, wine bars, cocktail lounges, and coffee houses are ready to satisfy your hunger and thirst.
First, the annual plein air painting event. Plein air, or “open air,” is the French tradition where artists paint out in the open. Artists will be painting on the streets of downtown Camas from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The finished art pieces will be put on display at Camas Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening. Stop by the gallery and vote for your favorites! The winning paintings will be auctioned off at Dinner in White on the Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Port of Camas-Washougal.
Next, the much-anticipated Bronze Bird Art Tour will celebrate its kick-off dedication as part of the downtown Camas First Friday festivities. Drop by Attic Gallery from 4 to 5 p.m. for a “Meet & Greet with Artists Georgia Gerber and Randy Hudson,” then meet at the fountain at 4th and Cedar at 5 p.m. for the official dedication. Then you can fly off to find all 13 birds throughout town; if you find them all, you’ll be entered to win a bird-themed prize basket. Bird Maps will be given out at the dedication and also at the Downtown Camas Association tables in Journey Community Church.
