Documentary Filmmaking Workshop
November 19, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$125
Columbia Collective is hosting a documentary filmmaking workshop led by acclaimed independent documentary filmmaker, Beth Harrington, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. This rock ‘n’ roll musician combined her love of music with her passion for storytelling to make two award-winning films: the Grammy-nominated “Welcome to the Club: The Women of Rockabilly” and “The Winding Stream: The Carters, the Cashes and the Course of Country Music.”
Due to major changes in the film industry, making these documentaries was not easy. They required an almost obsessive commitment to complete—but in the process, Harrington learned how to get it done. With this in mind, she is offering a day-long seminar to discuss modern documentary filmmaking, using her film The Winding Stream and its recent critical success as a case study. She’ll discuss the mechanics of filmmaking, including music and archival image clearance, as well as financing, festival submissions, theatrical screenings, and educational and digital distribution.
The cost to attend the workshop is $125 per person. Columbia Collective is located at 810 Main St. in downtown Vancouver. To register, click here.
