English Estate Winery will host its Eighth Annual Chili Cook-Off from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. This year, prizes will be awarded for Best Chili, Most Original Chili, and Best Corn Bread. Enjoy Southwest Washington’s best chili and enjoy estate-grown wines and hard apple ciders while casting your vote for your favorite. Winners will receive English Estate gift cards. For those interested not just in tasting but also in participating, there’s still time to sign up! Email email@example.com by Saturday, Oct. 21, and arrive with your chili in a large crockpot or a large pan of corn bread ready to sample.
English Estate Wine Club members get in for free. If you’re not a member, no worries—a $5 fee at the door will buy you membership with all its benefits through the end of 2018, plus an English Estate logo wine glass. In addition to great chili, wine, cider, and cornbread, guests will also enjoy a mix of bluegrass and folk will be performed by Somewhere Between from 4:30 and 7 p.m.
Clark County’s oldest winery is located in East Vancouver at 17806 S.E. 1st St. in Vancouver, just west of 192nd Ave., and is known for its Pinot Noir and fortified Nectar dessert wines. Other varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer, and Semillon. Regular tasting room hours are noon to 6 p.m. Fridays through Sundays with a happy hour on Mondays from 4:30 to 7 p.m. On Friday nights at 6 p.m., English Estate hosts Good Times and Wine with dinner and live music.
