Julie Olsen will be the featured artist at Camas Gallery from Friday, Sept. 1, through Saturday, Sept. 30. Olsen, a pastel and oil artist, spends countless hours building up layers of pastels to create contrasting colors on the canvas. It is this meticulous layering process that produces Olsen’s stunning realism, which draws the viewer straight to the subject’s eyes. Olsen’s signature “eye-catching” feature is what brings her completed projects to life. Olsen—who worked for many years as a cake decorator before beginning a second career in the arts—studied with Phyllis Corwin, a well-known art instructor and award-winning artist in Washougal, where Olsen also resides. Olsen’s first pieces have brought her recognition among gallery owners and art collectors as well as places in local and regional shows and exhibits. Olsen’s work can be also seen on her website at www.julieolsenart.com.
A First Friday art reception will take place at the Camas Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, with light refreshments. The reception is free and open to the public, and is an excellent opportunity to meet the artist in person and see her work up close. All the paintings and prints shown in the gallery are for sale. Camas Gallery, located at 408 N.E. 4th Ave. in downtown Camas, is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 360-817.2415, e-mail email@example.com, or visit Facebook.com/CamasGallery.
