A free Green Neighbors Recycling Day event in Battle Ground is a great opportunity for Clark County residents to drop off block foam, electronic equipment, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and scrap metal from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Battle Ground High School, 300 W. Main St. in Battle Ground. Proof of Clark County residency, such as a driver’s license, may be required.
Before you go, there’s a few things you should know about what can and can’t be accepted. Tires without rims are fine to recycle, but no more than five tires per person. No more than two banker boxes of paper to be shredded is allowed, and no business waste will be accepted. Household hazardous waste, such as paints, pesticides, poisons, automotive fluids, and chemicals, cannot be accepted. Dispose of household hazardous waste for free year-round at these transfer stations:
- Washougal Transfer Station, 4020 S. Grant St., 8 a.m.-4 p.m., third Saturday of the month
- Central Transfer and Recycling Center, 11034 N.E. 117th Ave., 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday-Sunday
- West Vancouver Materials Recovery Center, 6601 N.W. Old River Road, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday and Saturday
People who cannot attend the event can find year-round recycling options at www.RecyclingA-Z.com. Green Neighbors, a public health program of Clark County Solid Waste, will sponsor the Recycling Day Event in partnership with the city of Battle Ground. A Washington State Department of Ecology grant provides funding. Visit www.clarkgreenneighbors.org/recyclingday.html for more information.
