The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington recently launched a community-wide storytelling project titled Giving Out Loud. The project asks local residents to share stories of how philanthropy has impacted their lives and defines philanthropy broadly as “the love of humankind.” It seeks to curate stories that involve everything from traditional volunteerism and charitable donations to community building and personal acts of kindness. The project is also seeking stories from all sides of the charitable equation, whether the person has provided support or received support.
Those interested can submit stories for Giving Out Loud by visiting cfsww.org/giving-out-loud. The website also provides inspirational writing prompts and tips for sharing a personal story. While visitors can submit stories any time, those submitted by Friday, May 19, will be entered into the project’s kickoff contest. As part of this contest, four to six of the most compelling stories will be selected as feature stories. Selected storytellers will also receive a $250 grant award to give to their favorite local nonprofit.
A selection of stories will also be shared at the Community Foundation’s 2017 Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, June 6, at the Hilton Vancouver. Tickets to the non-fundraising event are $50 and are available at www.cfsww.org or by calling 360-694-2550.
