Every spring, the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens in Woodland celebrates the beauty of lilacs in full bloom with Lilac Days, to be held this year from Saturday, April 22, through Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14.
Visitors can stroll through the gardens, admire the dazzling variety of lilacs—from the pink “Esther Staley” to the white “Monique Lemoine” to the classic purple “Lilac Sunday”—and breathe the heady scent of sun-warmed blooms. Although the gardens are open year-round, plants are offered for sale only during Lilac Days, with proceeds helping to pay for the care of the gardens, outbuildings, and Klager’s Victorian-era home, which will be open for tours during the festival. Lilac-lovers come from around the Northwest—and sometimes from around the world—to buy lilac cultivars developed by Klager herself. The gift shop is also open only during Lilac Days, and is full of turn-of-the-century-style treasures.
The Lilac Display Garden is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a $3 admission fee is payable at the gate. Children under 12 years old are free when accompanied by an adult. Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens is located at 115 S. Pekin Rd. in Woodland, near Holland America Bulb Farm, where the Woodland Tulip Festival will also be taking place on April 22 and 23.
