KXRW Vancouver Independent Community Talk/Music Radio, 99.9FM is officially on the air! Save the date and join the community launch party from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, at Brickhouse Bar & Grill, with music by Lincoln’s Beard and craft brews from Loowit Brewing.
After many months of planning, permitting, weather delays, purchasing equipment as donations came in, and orchestrating labor for the installation, the tower is up and broadcasting. KXRW thanks its founding sponsors, Don Orange of Hoesly ECO Automotive and Bill Dickey of ADCO Printing, as well as many other KXRW founding members. Local business who stepped up to donate include Beacock’s Music, Music World, and Michelle Bart with NWCAVE.org, who generously donated our recording studio equipment. The engineering expertise of Michael Brown of Brown Broadcast Services and Dave Fulton have also made KXRW possible.
There are lots of ways for you to add your voice, time, talents—and it’s not too late to become a founding member. For more information about founding membership, go to mediamakingchange.org/kxrw. Want to get on the air and share your stories about Vancouver? Learn how to produce podcasts and stories for radio at “Radio U,” a partnership program between Media Institute for Social Change and XRAY.FM radio station, our partner radio station in Portland. The course presents instruction for the journalism and technical skills necessary to produce audio documentaries. Students will attend weekly seminars where they learn and practice digital recording and editing. Students will also be introduced to a variety of radio shows, podcasts, and audio resources to study interview techniques and narrative structure, and ultimately develop their own short audio documentaries. To learn more, go to mediamakingchange.org/radiou and submit an application to email@example.com by March 30.
