Bring the kids to Boomerang on Friday, Dec. 23, for a free showing of A Charlie Brown Christmas. There will be complimentary cookies and popcorn, a family sing-along with favorite Christmas carols, and a tree decorating contest. The kids can hang out in Boomerang’s real, honest-to-goodness treehouse, while the adults sip a hand-crafted espresso drink or browse around the store looking for last-minute gifts (check out Boomerang’s massive art display, with all original artworks priced at just $100). There’s plenty to see in the store, from jewelry and home furnishings to smaller décor items and books.
Boomerang, which calls itself a “Generosity Shop,” is different type of social business and nonprofit organization. A staff of volunteers (including the baristas!) operate as an upscale donation and retail center with a unique spin on charitable giving. Boomerang accepts donations of quality (and tax-deductible) items, then sells the items at reasonable prices in order to raise money for local worthy causes. Since opening in 2015, Boomerang been able to “give back” over $70,000 to the local community. To learn more, visit www.boomerangvancouver.com.
