Be scared. Be very scared. Why? Because Zombie Cats from Mars will be at the Kiggins Theatre at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 11. That’s the Vancouver premiere of this locally produced zom-com (I’m not sure, but I think that means “zombie comedy”), a throwback to the classic monster movies of the 50s.
But this event isn’t important because of the film (which is excellent zombified fun) or that fact that it’s the product of local talent (GO ‘COUVIES!), but because half of the proceeds from the evening will go to support Furry Friends, a no-kill cat shelter and adoption organization that’s in the process of funding a new, permanent building for its services.
The director of Zombie Cats from Mars and many cast members will be in attendance, but you should pay special attention to the black-and-white zombie cat in the movie, because that’s a Furry Friends cat named Peggy Sue, and she’s available for adoption. Sorry—other cat stars Big Boy, Nico and Ulysses have already been adopted! To see all the Furry Friends kitties that are looking for “fur-ever” homes, visit furryfriendswa.org.
